Colour ways and crochet

The build up to Christmas was absolutely manic, for Mr.H’s business but also for me getting all last minute orders out and finishing gifts, so once all festivities were out the way, (Happy New Year to you by the way) I sat there on January 1st thinking wow! No deadlines!

I had a sense of crochet freedom, bare in mind I’ve still wips left from last year, but there’s no rush, so I’ve cracked on again with my mandala madness from Crystals and crochet and I am just madly in love with it, Helen Shrimpton has to be one of the most talented designers ever, simply beautiful patterns, but the mandala madness is free!!!  I’ve been using women’s institute DK acrylic yarn in black white and grey for mine, from Hobbycraft its really lovely stuff on parr with Stylecraft special DK, but they don’t have very many colours

This photo is up to round 70 I’m on 73 now, but I really want to get it finished so I can start on helens new star of wonder.  In the pattern Helen writes that she found (us terms) DTR then BPSC combination by error, what a fabulous error! It adds so much texture to the blanket.

Anyway, she’s just launched a new pattern Star of wonder, not a freebie or a CAL, you can find her pattern through her blog page and clicking on the link to ravelry, it’s simply beautiful.  I’ve pinched a picture to show you, this isn’t mine!

Isn’t it magnificent?!

Now on her blog she also talks about choosing your own colour way.  If you’ve been reading my blog for a bit you’ll know I’m not very creative when it comes to colour, however helens blog has really helped me.

She says that as a guide you should chose your main colour, now I’ve got a new sofa coming in black, and I think grey is really nice at the moment and it would go with my sofa, so my main colour is grey, she then said to pick 3 shades of your main colour, so I’ve gone for graphite, grey and silver, then she recommends to pick a colour on the opposite side of the colour wheel, so I should of gone for a blue, but to be honest, I’m really not a fan of blue so I went a little to the other side and chose lime then finally to chose a neutral light, dark or medium, too much choice for me! So I stuck with white, but how lovely they all go together?!

I really think this will compliment my new black sofa, and quite pleased with myself for stepping outside of my comfort zone!  And a clever way to help choose colours I think. These are Stylecraft special DK, I’ll be using them as follows:

Colour 1 – silver

Colour 2 – grey

Colour 3 – graphite

Colour 4 – lime

Colour 5 – white

Anyway, in going to crack on with my mandala, and hand it over to my sister….

Christmas in October?!ย

Not normally for me, I can’t stand Christmas talk before November, but, Stylecraft were advertising a pattern for a Christmas wreath, it looked so beautiful I thought I’d give it a shot

How gorgeous is this?! It’s not mine I’ve pinched it from their website, but I’ve made a good start!

So far I’ve done the three large red flowers, 6 toadstools, 6 mistletoe, 2 out of 6 leaf spines, and 6 of thee most beautiful little cone pines

I love it! I don’t think I’ll use it as a wreath, I’m a bit worried about it getting wet or at worst stolen from the front of the house, but I’m thinking of not putting the big bow on and using it to pop a large tall candle in the middle, so a table decoration.

I’m also half way through round 3 of my sue Pinner carousel, still done zip on my lily pond!

Oh my Marriner yarn arrived, quite impressed to be fair, not quite as soft as the Stylecraft DK but for ยฃ1 I’m certainly not complaining.

My little box of crochet also arrived! A tea cozy!!! Never crocheted a tea cozy before, apparently my tension was a little too big for the cozy because I ran out of yarn 75% way through, so I’ve had to order more, but how cute is this?!

Anyway enough from me

Weekly update ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ„

I’m just getting ready to got to work in London for the next two days, so I thought I’d post a quick update.

So I made a start on the tree of life, it is such a beautiful pattern, but a little too expert for me I think, I’ve gotten into a bit of a mess with all the fpdc’s and bpdc’s and I don’t think it is quite looking how it should albeit it started off looking fabulous, I’ve got too much wip going on so I’ve given up! For now anyway.

Carousel part 3

Yes!!! Sue Pinner and Stylecraft launched part three of the carousel and I’m really enjoying it, I’ve never had the opportunity to JAYGO before but this pattern is full of it and I am loving it, no more joining at the end and sewing for what seems like forever!

My finished part 2 piece

Please excuse the following picture, I didn’t have a flat surface so it is draped over my laptop and desk, but this shows you 3 of the 16 hexagons joined, I love it

Not 100% on the colourway still but I’m sure it will grow on me.

I’ve done absolute nothing on lily pond cherry blossoms or mums Christmas jumper, I need to start getting a wriggle on with those as my wip is building ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Little box of crochet
Ohhhhhhh I have been wanting these for ages!! This was Amanda blooms first ever LBC, before I’d even heard of her, well when I went to yarndale I managed to grab a box

I was trying to pace myself on carousel so last night thought I’d give one of these mushrooms a go, I am so pleased with it!!

I’ve got the other two to do, but they’re packed in my overnight bag for London tonight, the yarn from sheepjes is just simply divine.

Marriners yarn

You know those inserts you get in the magazine, the ones you never read? Well I’d read a lot of comments on social media about Marriners yarns, they’ve been around for a loooong time, well I found their brochure in one of my mags, if you’ve not looked at their site before, get on! Look at their prices! My delivery hasn’t come yet but I’ve placed an order for 8 skeins, including delivery ยฃ11.95, now that’s a bargain, well I think it is anyway from all of the comments and recommendations I’ve read anyway! They’re website is Marriner yarns its well worth a look at ยฃ1.00 for DK, I’ve ordered mermaid and plan to make a mermaid tail for my niece, and some other Autumn colours for a dinosaur tail for my nephew, more to add to the wip list!!

I think that’s all from me to be honest, best finish packing, sort my face out then off to London.

Weekly update ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•

It’s  been a funny old week, lots of travelling for work… Over night stays etc. I quite like an overnight stay (sometimes) it means I get pure uninterrupted crochet time ๐Ÿ˜Š so this week I think I got over the trauma of finishing my Emma blanket, it’s still folded away in the place I left it, I can’t quite bring myself to either look at it or give it away just yet, a real labour of love.  But I’ve done a little more on my Stylecraft Lilly pond blanket, slowly but surely, I’m still on the first block just 2 more to go before I can move onto the more intricate bits!!

During my hotel stays this week I managed to finish Stylecraft baby bunting for my besties beautiful little boy, it is designed by Attic 24, anyway he’s just moved into his nursery so I thought some bunting would be cute

Cute isn’t it!!!  And this morning I’ve just started part of my mums Christmas present its a stunning jumper (oversized) designed by Frank and Olive

I’ve only done the first 11 rows, plenty more to do!! But the yarn is beautiful! I’ve never crocheted using Aran before but this is lovely, it’s grey with speckles of mint green, black and baby pink it’s a real pleasure to use it is Debbie Bliss Donegal Aran tweed, I’d recommend it for sure!!

Next week we start Sue Pinner carousel blanket CAL!! I’m using Stylecraft UK again for this one and all my colour way is sorted and in order and ready to start!!

I’ve got a busy weekend coming up, I’ve got crochet brocade group tomorrow morning which I’m looking forward to, then in the adternoon I’m going to the sewing and craft fair sponsored by hobbycraft at Trafford Manchester, the Sunday I’m taking my mum and my beautiful daughter to the emmerdale studio experience in Leeds, very excited!!!

Anyhoo!!! Some exciting news, well I think so anyway, I’m getting a new logo!!! I’ve instructed Seven seven design agency local to me, and this week they sent through my suggested new logos, oh my!!!! I got pretty emotional looking at them!! I work full time, but crochet is my passion and I’ve got plans for the Wee house of crochet, and the logo suggestions just made it feel so real! I’m so overwhelmed with them, I’m not sure which to choose, I’m sure I’ll share it with you soon though!  I’ve also been looking for a pattern for a while, I know what I want, and the colour way but I’ve not been inspired by any patterns, sooooooo I’m in the process of designing it myself, of course it’s all on paper at the moment and I’d have make it first, which could take some time given my current workload! Once done I’ll share it with you also.  Anyway best get some work done!!
