Birthday weekend๐Ÿฆ„๐Ÿฆ„๐Ÿฆ„

Well it’s been a whole year, a year today actually! That @lyndascraftroom and I held our very first Crochet Sanctuary it’s been an absolute blast! We’ve met so many amazing people. So our theme for the weekend was birthdays, cupcakes, unicorns, unicorn colours, piรฑatas, pass the parcel, and cake, way too much cake!

We started off our evening with everyone arriving including our guest designer Lottie & Albert, who’s podcast I watch regularly, it’s so odd meeting someone that you watch when they’ve never met you before!

Our room looked beautiful!! So we had 18 weekenders and 8 crochet day guests for the Saturday, so 26 of us in total. We started the evening off by giving all of our guests miffy slipper kits from Stitch and Story the yarn in the kits are absolutely beautiful, including a lovely bamboo hook and some lovely little cotton labels, they would of been perfect had the pattern included had been a little easier to read, it was a little oddly written and took a lot of concentration, which I struggled with, however we do have one person that finished them!

They’re so cute, but I think I personally need a quiet room to concentrate for these ones. Photo credit Sharon Meakin! Well done Sharon!

We also had Amanda from Little Box of Crochet so very kindly donate one of her Learn to crochet boxes ohhhhh my!!!!! I wish these were around when I was learning, they’re stunning, and she donated one for us to use as a pass the parcel and the lovely Alison Bailey won!

Just look what’s included!

Anyway, we had a lovely evening, albeit late, as once everyone had gone we then set up for our unicorn party the next morning

Oh the fun!! Although not so much fun when the balloons tangle!!!

A good friend would of helped……๐Ÿ˜‚

For our workshop in the morning Lynda and I had designed some cupcake pin cushions, one with a great big cream swirl and unicorn, we also had unicorn marshmallows on sticks

Don’t laugh at my sleepy eyes!!!!

But if people didn’t fancy using them as pincushions they had some head bands too, to make a head band

After lunch we moved onto Lindsey from Lottie and Albert Lindsey had provided us all with her rainbow blanket pattern and heart belly basket, the project is created by working 6 strands of dk yarn at the same time, using a 20mm hook, winding the yarn into large balls was a laugh!

It works up so quickly! And it’s so soft, so even if you wanted to use a cheaper yarn because it’s in a larger hook and it’s so airy even a cheaper yarn is so soft!

We used scheepjes colour crafter in pastels

Throughout the day we had pass the parcel games and our guests won things like toft kits, sweets and Amanda Blooms ‘the story so far’ book ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Sunday is always a chill out day, where we finish projects from the weekend, even though we themed the weekend as our first birthday it was more to give us ideas to base the weekend on, but people actually brought us gifts ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™ˆ we’ve had chocolates, candles and cards! Oh no!!! That really wasn’t the intention, but check out this amazing gift!!!

Mini skeins of hand dyed yarn in a mug!!!! Like ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ how amazing!!!

Anyway, we really couldn’t of had our 1st birthday if people didn’t actually book with us, so we bought our guests a gift to say a massive thank you to them

And we were lucky enough to have the author of the book there to sign it too!

It’s been an absolute laugh, and what more can you want than a comfy room filled with lovely people, yarn and cake?!

Here’s a few more pics

I think that’s all for now, until next time happy hooking!!!

Itโ€™s been a while!

Hello!! It has been a little while since my last blog, but I’ve been on my jollies, having some fabulous family time in the sun. Weeks running up to me going I was trying to get my day job finished, then some Crochet sanctuary stuff sorted, and designs! @lyndascraftroom and I have a few projects we are working on at the moment, including the autumn cal for Knitcraft, some bits for Marriner yarns which is exciting. You know we love Knitcraft yarns, well we also very much like Marriner. You should really take a look as they have some stunning yarns and very well priced. In fact I think they under price their yarn, which can often make people think it’s cheap or poor quality, but it’s not, they’ve got some good dk’ sand some fabulous chunky verigated yarns and beautiful cottons, have a look!

So we went to Bulgaria for 10 days, and stayed in Nessebar, I was very much hoping to find some yarn, but I did come across some ladies making a living from their crocheted items

That was all the crochet I found!! I didn’t get much done whilst I was away either, took plenty of wip but it was too hot.

Before I went away I had my granny square design released on the Hobbycraft blog

We were given a list of items to crochet using granny squares, I chose the hot water bottle, using Knitcraft in the zone, I love the bright colours and the yarn just glides over the hook, lovely stuff!

Then whilst I was away my Not so little box of crochet arrived!! My neighbour kindly took it in for me, oh wow!!!!

It’s amazing!!! It’s designed using intarsia crochet…….never tried it before, and I don’t think I will again! Thank goodness the pattern Said we could use tapestry, intarsia for me is just a mess at the back, and I wasn’t leaving a long enough piece of yarn, tapestry is much easier, I’m not posting a pic yet as I’ve only done about 6 row after frogging the intarsia! It’s beautiful though and I know Amanda still has some boxes so you should order!

We’ve only got 5 weeks until the next crochet sanctuary Yayy!!!! I’m so excited, it seems ages since the last one.

We’ve got the rather fabulous Heather from KCACOUK hosting our guest designer workshop on the Saturday afternoon, which I’m really looking forward to. And we’ve completely sold out until June 2019! What’s that about?! Who ever knew we’d sell weekends so quickly, and to think @lyndascraftroom and I were sick with nerves when we started! We do love it, and we have some amazing guests.

I’ve really missed not going to our Knitcraft social the last few weeks, so looking forward to going back on Saturday, it’ll be lovely to see everyone. Then! On Sunday @lyndascraftoom and I are off to Toft in Warwickshire, we’ve never been before, it was Lyndas birthday in July, so for her gift I booked us both in for a workshop to crochet Chablis the unicorn

Isn’t she gorgeous?! There is also an option to supersize her, so I’ll see how much it is, I’ve been a little naughty recently in terms of yarn ๐Ÿ™ˆ I can’t help myself.

I’ve still got my nameless blanket to finish, Sophie’s universe, 2 Sophie’s stools, a Mabel bunny from wool couture, primavera blanket oh jeez the list goes on and on! And now I’ve bought this!!

Couldn’t not to be honest! Sneaky little purchase while lying by the pool, ah well!! I really do nee to start concentrating on finishing some WIPs it’s starting to take over the whole house, and that’s without the crochet sanctuary deliveries. So we will see about Chablis!!

I think I’ve caught up…. oooh!!! I bought a sewing machine!! Made one bandana for the dog ๐Ÿ˜‚ bought tonnes of material and tools, cutting boards, rotary cutter tailors chalk pins you know, everything I need, subscribed to sewing mags, got quite a few patterns, and I’ve done nothing….. but I will, I’m a bit scared I think! As my dad would say, ‘all the gear and no idea’

So yes I think I’ve caught up, will let you know how the toft workshop goes!!

Happy hooking

Knitcraft Spring CAL!

Well, well, well 30th March it is! The spring CAL will be our 3rd CAL with Knitcraft and we really do enjoy doing them. We’re so proud of this one, it really does say spring! Cannot wait to share pictures of it. The yarn bundles will go on sale on the hobbycraft website next week, if you do fancy buying it online use the link on the side of this blog I might make a penny or two!!

Now that it’s finished and been sent to Knitcraft HQ for testing it’s been odd to have a some time to crochet, you think I’d concentrate on finishing some WIP but I haven’t, we’ve been designing things for The April Crochet Sanctuary we’ve got some amazing things planned for our guests, it’s so exciting, we have people coming from all over the country, even someone from Germany!!!

One thing I have crocheted and can share is the Zeens and Rogers Easter egg, I need to make another really, but enjoyed it and the WI yarn was lovely to use. There’s a lot to be said about my embroidery skills though, or lack of!!

The pattern is free and can be made in any yarn, so I’m definitely gong to make more!

I’ve also managed to get half of my Embrace shawl by Little box of crochet not so little box!! Some may think its expensive, it’s more self indulgent, but we all deserve it right?! The yarn is amazing!!!! The colourway is stunning

Now we’ve also given a room at The Crochet Sanctuary to Little Box if Crochet for them to run a prize draw, so for every person that has bought the Not so little box, their name will be entered into a draw to win and entire weekend! Not bad!! Plus they would get to sit in on Amanda’s workshop on the Saturday afternoon, so this is open to anyone! But the box get entered, even if you don’t win the box is worth every single penny.

Now recently our little Knitcraft social has become not so little too!! Our table is now full plus and extended table! We’ve got so many regulars now it’s fabulous!

Today we had someone new join, Mike, I don’t know about you but there is something lovely about a guy that crochets, even more so his work! Check this out!!

A huge crocodile stitch blanket!! Mikes been crocheting for about 12 years, I personally think it’s fab!

I’ve also been working on my Coastal crochet seaside stash buster and thoroughly enjoying it!! I’ve not completed fridays yet but I’ll crack on with that tomorrow.

Also this morning I was sooooo chuffed. Christmas 2016 my next door neighbour who has 4 gorgeous girls asked me (a week before Christmas) if I could crochet 4 mermaid tails, I said yes, and finished the last one 03:00 Christmas morning. Well the youngest of her daughters has been dragging her tail around with her everywhere, it’s a real comfort to her, which I wasn’t aware of, so this morning they popped into hobbycraft to see if I could stitch the tail back on as not surprisingly after 15 months it’s showing some wear. But I was so pleased that something I have crocheted has been loved so much!! I mended it as best I could, but I am going to make her another and see if she’ll replace it. But she also mentioned that she has two reborn dolls, and one day maybe I could make a cardigan for her. So I’ve grabbed some of my hayfield blossom, which I’ve been itching to use and I’ve whipped up a quick set for her in a couple of hours, the yarn is so cute!! It’s not perfect but I’m sure she’ll appreciate it

I think that’s about it……other than we still have a couple of rooms left for April, which obviously need booking! June’s is 50% booked, September 75% booked and November is surprisingly 50% booked too!!!

I think that’s all for now

Happy Hooking ๐Ÿ˜˜

Knitcraft social and crochet books

Hello! I’ve not had too much to blog about recently, we’ve mainly been focusing on the new Knitcraft Spring CAL, so I can’t tell you much about that just yet…….also finalising the finer details for the February Crochet Sanctuary , it’s literally two weeks away, and I’m becoming so nervous! At the same time we are also planning and taking bookings for the April Crochet Sanctuary, we’re pulling all the stops out on this one! We visited cranage hall yesterday and looked at the room again, our own Harry Potter style room, discussed the layout, and realised we need more crocheted items!! So Abby (my beautiful daughter) has been making lots of Pom Poms to fill our TCS (the crochet sanctuary) fillable letters, to pop onto the fire place, we’re adding more bunting and finishing blankets and cushions

You can’t have too much right?!

Our Knitcraft social group is growing rapidly!!!! I don’t know where they’ve all come from but it’s great!! We’ve had 4 new ladies join us, and @lyndascraftroom and I are thoroughly enjoying helping them to grow their yarn stash!!

We’ve even had a little girl join us who is being taught how to crochet in school and even though she’s not quite joined the group she has been popping along with her Mum for help, and it’s lovely!

I’ve finished the top part of Sophie’s stool!!!

I still wish I’d dropped another hook size because it’s still slightly too big, pattern a 3mm for the top but I think I should of dropped to a 2mm, but it’ll have to do now, just the shoes to go, I’m so pleased with it.

Today’s been great, we had our Knitcraft social this morning and then this afternoon we attended the Event City exhibition hall at Trafford for the craft show, we had won tickets through a competition ran by the lovely Lynne at Wool Nest, so free for us to get in, unfortunately not too much there in the way of yarn, I think 3 stalls in total, so we only stayed for an hour, I did treat myself to some king Cole cake (more yarn cakes) ๐Ÿ™ˆ I seem to have gained rather large collection of scheepjes whirls, Caron cakes, style crafts and now King Cole, there’s only so many shawls a girl can have! Then later this afternoon we popped into blacksheep wools for some more of their little patterns.

I’ve had a good bargain or two this week from eBay, I’m a stickler for a good Crochet book, and won this

What a book! The patterns are amazing! Really modern and I literally want to make everything.

I also ordered this one but not 100% keen really, it’s no where near as good as the Celtic cables one, but in all fairness I’ve not read through thoroughly yet

Thank heaven for little boys ๐Ÿ’ž

Just a quicky so I can post my bobble blanket, couldn't post it yesterday as it was a gift.

I became a godmother yesterday to a beautiful little boy, he's just edible!!!

Anyway I made this

Not a great pic as I hand to stand on a chair to try and get it al in, but it was made from hobbycrafts WI aran, all 1200g of it!

Such an honour to be asked, I'm not too sure if people take it seriously anymore, ok I'm not religious but I do strongly believe in the principles behind it!

And isn't this lovely!!!

Anyway was just a quick update to show my blanket off.

Happy Hooking xx

There is thunder in our hearts

I’ve not felt too good over the last week or so, I blame it on this heat we’re having and the fact it’s too warm to crochet!

I know we shouldn’t complain but I get ratty when I don’t crochet, anyway, last week I did finish my gorgeous lost in time shawl, by @mijocrochet, although I need to weave in a few ends and block it before I post about it.

Little box of crochet

I have finally started my Little box of crochet from may! Oh my, it’s stunning, and so meaningful this month, I’m not sure if any of you subscribe to these stunning boxes or not, or if you know about jenny but she sadly passed away in may, totally heartbreaking, only a few weeks later the May box came out ‘Jenny’s mandala’ I could of kicked myself, because I had stopped my subscription for a month so that @lyndascraftroom and myself could get our project finished without distraction.  I will never stop my sub again! I was lucky as after speaking to Amanda at the crochet retreat I was able to get the box I’d missed, but lesson learned I won’t stop again.

So I started last night despite the heat, and I love it, it’s not finished yet, still a fair few rounds to go

I’m going to frame it when done, in a nice white box frame.

Ok so did anyone watch ‘April Jones 5 years on’ a few nights ago?

Well if you’ve got a hawk eye for yarn you might if spotted Aprils tree in her favourite place, it still looked nice but I thought it could do with a bit of a contribution from us Warrington hookers! So I made contact and they would love to have some more squares to make the tree pretty again, this is what her tree looked like when it was first yarn bombed

Isn’t it stunning! So we’re going to make a big batch on Saturday and get them sent to Aprils mum.

If any of you have any squares or blocks that you won’t use and would like to contribute to then feel free to pop them in the post to me and I’ll get them posted

9 fairford close, great Sankey, warrington, WA5 1ZE

Ps. I think her favourite colour might of been pink!
Happy hooking xx

Phewww that was close

Note to self, de scale the iron before steam blocking!!

My last post was a review on sirdar sublime, at the time I was crocheting a wee cardy in piglet pink.  Well I’ve finished it! But it was touch and go!

I finished the cardigan and thought, with it being cashmere and silk I’d steam it, this was the result

Dirty water spewing out of my iron!!!!! I was livid! Anyway, after a very gentle hand wash it actually came out, what a relief!!!

I also made teeny tiny shoes and a little hat to match

Since posting it on social media I’ve now been asked to make three baby blankets, 2 exactly the same and daisy blanket.

One of these, now I have pinched the picture from Little dove crochet but these are colours ive been asked to make, and it’s just stunning!! Although they’ve asked for a brighter pink.

Now little dove crochet doesn’t give the pattern on her blog, because the daisy was designed by Till tulip she gives 2 seperate patterns, one for the daisy and one for the squaring off, so I’ve combined the two.  Now beautiful white boarder was added by nLittle dove crochet, she also gives the pattern on her blog, so I’m using two patterns from tillie tulip and one from little dove crochet, but together it makes a stunning blanket, I can’t wait to see my finished results.

The other two blankets I’ve been asked to make are a free pattern and both blankets are the same design and same colour!!

This blanket is by Daisy cottage designs if you click on the link it’ll take you to it.  Gorgeous isn’t it!!

@lyndascraftroom and I are getting very close to finishing our secret mission, Lynda is busy joining and I’m about to put together my first video tutorials, nerve wracking or what!!!

I’ve also spent some time this weekend sorting out my yarn stash, and I was slightly ashamed of how much I actually have, I sent a photo to @lyndascraftroom saying ‘please tell me yours is worse’ oh boy!!!! Hers is a lot worse!!! But so very organised, she is good at that, she winds all of her skeins into cakes and puts the label back on, looks fab! Whereas I have a section for dk, Aran, cottons, chenilles and 4 ply, anyway, I have put myself on a serious ban, and I really mean it this time!!

I’ve added the links above for the daisy pattern blanket and the ripple pattern for you to have a nosey at.

I’m off to hang my head in shame

Happy hooking!! Xx

Giving up my craft room – a mammoth task!

My parents have been planning on moving for 18 months, they’ve got a beautiful barn conversion but want something smaller, they’ve sold it 5 times andfour times the sale has fallen through, this last offer they’ve had they’ve been really down in the dumps and they’ve had so many stressful loops to jump through its made my dad a bit poorly, so they’ve not bothered looking anywhere incase they jinx it, finally though it looks like they might exchange contracts any day!!!

So they’re coming to stay with me until they find somewhere, there’s only the two of them and Harvey the dog

I’ve got a 4 bed, and use one of them as my office and craft room, so you can imagine how full it is…….they’re going to be with us for at least 6 weeks, so I need to give them a room for sure! I’m quite excited, we also have our garag converted we call it the den, it’s basically where Mr H wastes away on his ps4 every night.  Well watch out Mr H because I’m joining you!!!  No more man cave๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I’ve had a skip delivered today and I’m getting rid of my big corner desk and my huge bookcase that is jammed with yarn, all the crap is going in the skip, don’t panic, not one ounce of yarn is going in there!

I’m off to IKEA shortly to buy half of a desk hmmmm yep half, I have a large unit in the den which gets alsorts crammed in, it’s from IKEA and I can buy an attachment looks like this

So you know where this is going don’t you ๐Ÿ˜‚ I’m going to wind all of my yarn into cakes to make it easier to stack then each and every shelf is getting filled apart from one that sits above my desk because my printer will need to go there, and there you go my new little craft area!  Mum and dad get a room of their own and I get a new space, perfect if you ask me, however the biggest problem is going to be emptying this room in the first place, I shall let you know how I get on!

It’s CAL carousel dayย

So it’s 08:16, I’ve postponed my 12:00 London meeting to 15:00 so I can be home for 09:30 for the launch of sue pinners carousel CAL, so I thought I’d kill some time and fill it with a quick blog.

I’m a bit excited, I’ve got my yarn

And I’ve sorted my stash!

And I am ready to go!

I’ve got two CAL’s on the go, got the lily ponds too, I started block 2 last night and loved it! Check out this beauty

I learnt a lot from my last CAL, three things I learnt:

  1. My tension is pretty good
  2. Always measure as I go instead of winging it (just incase)
  3. Weave in ends as I go, it’s a pain in the rear

Oh If it’s not right FROG IT! It’ll be better in the long run

On Sunday I took my mum and my daughter on the emmerdale tour, if you’re not in UK you’ve may not if heard of emmerdale, but it’s soap set in the countryside and it’s been running for around 40 years, there’s a family known as ‘the dingles’ that live in a farm, and they’re always being filmed in their lounge, and very often I notice the crocheted blankets in the bank ground, so I managed to get a few pictures of them, apparently they’re donated by the general public, could this be a way to get rid of my Emma blanket?!  I have also read that Lisa Dingle is also a bit of a hooker and often makes them herself though

It’d be amazing to see one of mine on tv!! Ha!
I also got a lovely mention on Instagram from one of the girls that joined crochet brocade group on Saturday, she’s been crocheting longer than me, but struggles to work more than 15 minutes before she starts getting pain in her hands, she’d been working on a tea cozy for over a year and only completed about 4 rows, she came to group on Saturday, and admitted she wasn’t finding crochet relaxing, I noticed straight away she wasn’t holding her yarn right, and her fingers were ridged, she needed to relax and not ‘hold’ the yarn but let it rest between her fingers and then flex her tension finger when needed, it’s hard to unlearn something you’ve been doing for a such a long time, anyway she left group doing exactly the same as when she walked in, I know she watches a lot of bella coco tutorials and weather I helped her or the online tutorials helped her I don’t know, but between Saturday and Sunday she’d actually completed her tea cozy and it looks lovely!!! So well done to her!

Anyway another 42 mins to go until the launch……….

Happy hooking xx
