Friday again?!

I can't quite believe how quickly the weeks are flying by, we are already into week 4 of the Knitcraft Tea on the Green CAL, this weeks pattern is a very simple C2C, I might be wrong but I think this is the first CAL to incorporate blocks with C2C, we seem to have a lot of beginners taking part in the CAL, which is so rewarding! So this block is fab for them to learn something new, and for the more experienced something easy.

See part 4

Seeing someone join and watching them progress is just phenomenal. We have one lady, who said she was brand new to crochet and lacked confidence, wasn't too sure if she would be able to do it, well she's smashed Blocks A to C and was so confident that she started Rosslyn!!!!
She posted a pic of Rosslyn on Helens Hookaholica and the last time I looked she had in excess of 300 likes!

My Rosslyn took a back seat this week, I didn't realise how close we were to 20th august, when I will become a god mother for the first time! I decided I'd like to crochet something for my future godchild to keep, so I started a bobble stitch blanket and I'm made up with it!!! It's a lot of effort but my godchild (Freddie) is so worth it

The blanket is made up of a lot of different blocks that read 'thank heaven for little boys' I thought it was quite apt for a christening.

I've got to be honest though, I didn't quite realise how hard it would be running a CAL, even though @lyndascraftroom and I are running it together, I thought my skin was a lot thicker than it is, I was wrong, it's odd because we have over 1000 people now all taking part, which I think is fabulous for our first cal, we get so many nice comments, and they're all very uplifting, but it's funny how emotionally attached you become to something you have worked so hard on, I mean it's bound to happen, you're bound to get a couple of negative posts out of a thousand people, but it's that one negative post that really bothers me!

Thinking back to CAL's that I have done I've been guilty of it myself, we have had a few patterns where there has been a minuscule typo, we are humans at the end of the day, but people are quick to point them out, or if there is a part they don't like, quick to tell people, but what that does is ignite others to join in, so we have managed to 'manage' the fb page fairly well until last week.
I work full time so I can't be there all of the time and neither can Lynda, so we have been given help by 4 new admin and they have been and are amazing!!!!
I've actually slept! Yes it's been stressful!

But it's all a learning curve and I hope these people stay with us for our next one!

Anyway off to hook!

What a week!

The Knitcraft Tea on the green CAL is going well, some amazing work from our 'wee hookers'!

Week 3 block has now been posted on the hobbycraft blog Block C our CAL so far has been on a few road trips!

  1. The emmerdale studio tour
  2. Swimming
  3. Starbucks
  4. Bike rides
  5. Hair dressers
  6. And most amazingly (we never thought it would get outside the UK) but it's been on a 1000 mile road trip from Nevada to Utah!
  7. Also!! We have Carol Mathews taking part in the CAL, I had no idea it was thee Carol Mathews and I had read two of her books, but Carol does Facebook live videos and actually showed her crochet on the Facebook live videos ha!!!

I've started another little project too, I've started Helen shrimptons Rosslyn blanket, I'm in love with it, it's just beautiful, whilst I completed the mandala type centre perfectly, with no mistakes whatsoever the squaring off hasn't gone so well, I can't quite figure out how my stitch count is so out, but it lies flat and looks good, so I'm just going to live with it

I've used the sacred wisdom colourway and it's just lovely, I'm determined to finish this one! Especially seen as star of wonder is not complete and neither is mandala madness, I'm a serial starter!

I also thought I'd best get my act together with my bead wrap, mum goes on holiday a week Friday and I've still a few more long rows to complete and the tassels to do but it's looking lovely!

Other than crocheting it's been busy! Keeping on top of Facebook questions and queries and the YouTube tutorials, we're also still taking bookings for the The Crochet Sanctuary which is filling up slowly but surely for February.

Anyway, best go and do some real work!!!

Crochet Along, sweet caroline and little box of crochet 💞

As you know Friday just gone knitcraft released the first part of @lyndascraftroom and my CAL ‘Tea on the green’ well, considering it’s knitcraft/hobbycraft first CAL and ours I think it’s going pretty well!! We’ve had one or two tiny hiccups but I’m really pleased with it so far.  The first Block A was always going to make it or break it, it has a real mixture of stitches in there, we wanted it to be suitable for both beginners and those a bit more experienced.  Once the first person completed the first block there was a sigh of absolute relief!!! We’ve had them working with dc’s, htr’s, tr’s, dtrs, ttrs, bpdc’s, bobble stitches and turning circles into squares!!

Along the way we’ve had so many lovely comments!! I think because both Lynda and I spent so long on it we forgot just how nice it is, so to read nice comments is so heart warming.  I won’t lie, a few have brought a bit of a tear 😂!!!

At the moment we’ve got 780 people following on Facebook, I’ve not a clue how many are working on it outside of that, but I was jumping for joy at 200!! We’ve got people joining us every hour of the day, some are even in Australia and the US! So people joining through the night too.  Anyway we’ve had some fabulous Block A’s completed, thought I’d share a few 💞💞

It’s like wow!!! We designed that!! And people like it!
Anyway, I’ve also been making YouTube tutorials, never in my life have a made a tutorial, but there’s a first time for everything! I don’t even know how to edit them so they’re rough, just me a hook and yarn.

In between all that I’ve also been working on Helen shrimptons 🎶sweet caroline🎶 I love it! I love Helen shrimpton she’s just an absolute legend!!!  Here’s my part two finished using scheepjes catona

Then!!! Another exciting thing! My little box of crochet arrived this week! I’ve made a little start!

It’s just lovely and full of goodies, and if you’ve never had one before, get one!!

Now that took some stuffing! 🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩

I have been itching to make a doughnut for a long time, Twinkie chan (amazing) released the pattern last year in her book, Crochet abode a la mode, she fantastic, I still haven’t bought the book! But then the pattern was released in a magazine

so I had to buy it.  Then when I looked at the pattern it was going to cost a fortune to make, the pattern recommends super chunky lionbrand yarn, I think I was looking at about £60 for the yarn and £75 for the stuffing.

Anyway, after visiting abakhan in Liverpool last week I managed to find some super chunky yarn in a biscuit colour and pink, they were classed as seconds because the label was missing, I bought 8 balls of biscuit for about £12 and 5 balls of hot pink for £6.99, then I found the new hug it out yarn from hobbycraft knitcraft and thought I’d use that for the centre, it’s just lovely! And so thick!

All in all I spent £25 on

yarn, savvy shopper me you know!! Once I’d finished it looked a little like this

Floppy! I had read online that it would take between 4-5 kg of yarn to stuff! Anyway @lyndascraftroom sent through a link for amazon, £10 delivered for 5kg!  It’s difficult to understand without seeing just how large 5kg of toy stuffing is!

It’s huge!!!!!!  But, Twinkie chan wasn’t wrong, not one bit, that doughnut swallowed the lot.  So this morning has been a little hot and sticky, with help from the girls at our #knitcraftsocial we got it stuffed, I’m so pleased with it!!!

Like a doughnut on legs!

This will now be covered in large stuffed 9cm sprinkles and kept by for The Crochet Sanctuary.

Anyway if you fancy a doughnut, calorie free get hooking!! Xx

So much going on!  But it’s great ☺️

And I’m still managing to get some crochet time in.  We’ve been quite busy this week crocheting lots of items for the The Crochet Sanctuary I’ve finished a lovely flamingo cushion cover

I really enjoyed crocheting this, and it was fairly quick to work up, it’ll look lovely on the sofa by the fire!

I also started a Twinkie chan (I love that woman) large doughnut pouffe too! It’s big, really big, and it’s going to take a whopping 5kg of stuffing, that’s 20 of the bags I normally buy from hobbycraft!  Anyway I managed to order some from amazon for about £10, so I’m pleased with that, it’s not finished, it needs sprinkles and stuffing

It’ll be comfy though!  I have used some of hobbycrafts new ‘hug it out’ for the pink centre, now the yarn is thick, really thick and nice to crochet with.  @lyndascraftroom has been busy with lalylala isn’t he gorgeous!!! She’s called him Sassoon as he looks like a rather camp hair stylist!

I’m not sure she has had much of a chance for anything else as our knitcraft CAL was announced on Tuesday, earlier than we had been expecting, so @lyndascraftroom has been glued to the laptop answering questions and accepting people to the group.

We’ve been overwhelmed by some of the comments about the blanket, it became a real labour of love for us with deadlines and getting it ‘right’

We’ve also roped in my daughter who’s been making Pom Pom wreaths and rugs for us! For the sanctuary, whilst the room is beautiful we need to adorn it with yarn and crocheted items.

So yes a very busy week! Launching the Crochet Sanctuary and a CAL all in one week!

Once my doughnut is finished I’ll be working on @coastalcrochet crocheted log camp fire, check it out, she’s relaeased the free pattern on her blog, I’ll be using it incase it’s too warm to have the fire on at the sanctuary!

Second Frank and Olive crochet retreat

Awwww what a fabulous day! Just what I needed! If you’re in the UK the retreat is a must! We (myself and @lyndascraftroom) arrived this morning at 09:45 after a fairly easy 2 hour drive, and we were created by Ruby…..the guests that stayed overnight were just having breakfast so we got first dibs on seats ha!

I was sooooo pleased and slightly starstruck as Amanda from the little box of crochet was sat at the table!  I have this awful habit when I see someone from the TV or someone who I would class as famous (I do class Amanda as famous) I look at them and smile as if I know them and they know me! I normally get greeted with a ‘oh oh we’ve got a weirdo here!’ Last week I met chris Bisson from emmerdale farm and gawped at him, then just the other day kate ford (Tracey from coronation street) I’m sure I scared them both, but I played it cool when I saw Amanda, even though I was like wow!

Plenty of yarn at the retreat, I made a bag, it was supposed to be a hook bag, but I adapted it slightly so it was more of a tote

Made from t-shirt yarn, I quite like it! Just needs a big button on the top and clip inside to keep it closed, I might even use it.

We then had a gorgeous lunch, and then went onto a workshop with a very clever lady from @cottonclara look what I made!

Ok not quite crochet but very much yarn related and it will look lovely in my craft area, we then did some cross stitch on plastic templates, I’m rubbish at sewing so I’m not even going to embarrass myself by showing you my makes!

Anyway, I’ve had a great day, we only had a day pass, but next time I’ll be booking a weekend for sure!
Happy hooking xx

Feeling slightly giddy

Such a busy week at work this week!! 03:30 get ups and too much driving….someone asked me what I’d do first if I won the lotto………..I’d buy a farm, and on my farm I’d have alpaca, a coffee & cake shop and a country hotel…..with a spa……my hotel would be a retreat, where people could just come and knit or crochet for weeks on end………bliss…..anyway we can all have a dream!

I’ve been busy but still managed to get some crochet in even though I’m literally dog tired.  I’ve only got a few more rows of my last ripple blanket then that whole order is done!

Mum asked me if I could make her something to put on a sideboard in her spare bedroom as she’s marked the top, she’s not a doily kind of person, so I went on the hunt for a mini mandala, I found on on hobbycraft blog!! Here’s the link Mandala it’s by a lady called Cathy crochet, her mandala pattern is so nice to do, and quite easy, but it was going to come out quite large, plus my mums spare room is very ‘white company’ so it’s all bright whites and greys, so I bought a nice grey cotton from hobbycraft DMC Petra, such a nice cotton and so much for your money!  I did miss out about 6 rounds to get the size I wanted, and completed it all in one colour, i really like it and so does mum!

Once I’ve finished my final ripple blanket I’m going to finish my lost in time shawl, then I’m going to make lots more!

I saw a lost in time shawl made from scheepjes swirl and it looked amazing! So I managed to get some from black sheep wools before they’d even gotten onto the shelf!

How gorgeous are these colours!!!  I’m looking forward to using them, they’re so soft and squishy.

This morning I was thinking I could do with a break, well, frank and olive have a sale on day passes for their retreats, then I remembered that they have one tomorrow, so to cut a long story short we’ve cancelled our crochet group tomorrow, everyone’s on holiday anyway ha! And myself and @lyndascraftroom are treating ourselves to a day away in York at the frank & olive crochet retreat, and at half the price how could you not!!! I’m so excited!!!!

So there you go, off for some shut eye.

Lost in time & scheepjes catona

Ohhhhh wow!!!  I’ve felt a little ‘what to do now’ since myself and @lyndascraftroom finished our mission, don’t get me wrong I’ve got plenty of WIP but nothing to really get me going.  Until I came across a CAL that someone had shared on Facebook from a fabulous crochet designer called @mijocrochet I saw a shawl in the most beautiful colours and thought I just have to have it!

It’s made using scheepjes catona which I am a huge fan of anyway, so I was more than happy to put in an order with wool warehouse, within less than 24 hours I was cracking on with my @mijocrochet shawl.  The CAL is called lost in time, and I really have gotten lost in time with it, it’s simply stunning, the scheepjes is stunning too, you must go and have a look at her blog, Mijo crochet the pattern is free download.

I am literally loving every single stitch, I do feel a bit naughty as I have pinched someone else’s colourway, but I just had to have it.

Anyway I know I keep going on about our secret mission, but it’s such a relief to finish it and fingers crossed We can tell you about it all very soon!

Anyway far too busy with my lost in time shawl off to do some more!
Happy hooking xx

We did it……!

Well a big massive thank you to @lyndascraftroom we have worked so hard the last few months on our secret mission, it’s been a real joint effort and I’ve enjoyed all of it.

It’s been a real labour of love, and a huge learning curve.  We can’t give too much away, even though We are desperate to!  We worked especially hard yesterday when we realised that our original plan wouldn’t quite work, and our deadline was today!  We’ve sat quite comfortably the last few weeks thinking we had cracked it, then at the last minute absolute panic stations!

So yesterday @lyndascraftroom and I sat for a solid 13 hours non stop crocheting, 13 hours and 14,608 treble stitches later and were done, yes 14,608………

We’re hoping we can share it with you very soon, and we also hope it will be the first of many.

We haven’t got any pictures to share at all, but I can’t tell you just how proud I am of what we’ve done! We’re slightly bias but this morning as we were adding a few finishing touches in hobbycraft Warrington we had a lot of people coming over and saying ‘wow! That’s beautiful!’ We couldn’t show them everything but we didn’t half feel smug
